About the School

   The Nursery School has been in operation for 40 years.  We are located at the Harundale Presbyterian Church in Glen Burnie.  The goals of the school are to help children feel comfortable in a setting outside the home, to learn to function in a group, to be able to follow instructions, and to get along with other children.  We use teacher directed activities which allow for the child's creativity.  We provide opportunities for physical, social and emotional growth.  The spirit of Christian love underlies all of the relationships of the school. 

    Harundale Presbyterian Weekday School is accredited and certified through the Maryland Board of Education and provides instruction in language arts, mathematics, science and social studies.  The teachers hold bachelors degrees in education.  The ratio of students to teachers is 8:1 for the 4 year old classes and 7:1 for the 3 year old classes.  The school is open to all children regardless of race, religion or national origin.  The 3 year old classes meet Tuesday and Thursday, and the  4 year old classes meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  All classes meet from 9:30 to 12:00.

    Some highlights of the school year:

  1. Taking a field trip to a pumpkin farm and a nature walk.

  2. Learning the sounds of the alphabet letters, one per week(4 year olds), while the 3 year olds are learning about a color and shape per week.

  3. Performing scientific experiments to learn about water and ice.

  4. Learning about fire safety and having practice fire drills.

    During the months of November and December we will learn about the first Thanksgiving and have our own Thanksgiving Feast, learn about Christmas traditions around the world, and prepare for our Christmas program.
